Participation of non-governmental organizations in the civil society briefing
Reference is made to the Conference resolution 4/6, whereby inter alia civil society briefings shall be convened on the margins of the sessions of the Implementation Review Group. According to that resolution, in accordance with rule 17, paragraphs 1 and 2, respectively, of the rules of procedure of the Conference, the Secretariat shall invite to the briefings:
- relevant non-governmental organizations having consultative status with the Economic and Social Council, as well as
- other relevant non-governmental organizations, which have been admitted to participate as observers in the session of the Conference previous to the briefing.
The same resolution indicates that “Non-governmental organizations wishing to attend a briefing shall confirm their attendance no later than ten days prior to the date of the briefing, at which time they will be allowed to provide comments in writing.”
Accordingly, invitations are sent to the above-mentioned categories of non-governmental organizations. The briefing is scheduled to be held in person at the Vienna International Centre, with the possibility of remote participation via Microsoft Teams, on 1 September 2020 at 13:15. The deadline for the submission of confirmations of attendance as well as of written comments for invited NGOs will be 21 August 2020.
Due to the on-going COVID-19 protective and physical distancing measures in place at the Vienna International Center, representatives of the non-governmental organizations who have registered for in-person participation at the briefing for NGOs which will take place on 1 September 2020 from 13:15 to 14:45 hours in the margins of the first resumed eleventh session of the Implementation Review Group, are kindly advised that access to the Centre will need to be limited to 12:00 to 16:00. We thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
