Recife, September 14, 2021 - The governor of Pernambuco, Paulo Câmara, received members of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), at a meeting held this Monday (14), in Recife, PE.The meeting took place as part of the "Pernambuco Cooperation", which counts with t e partnership among UNODC, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the State Secretariat for Violence and Drug Prevention Policies (SPVD), the United Nations Agency for Human Settlements (UN-HABITAT) and the Igarapé Institute.
The objective of the meeting was to present to Paulo Câmara the new design of the Prevention Policy built under the scope of SPVD, supported by UNODC. The central projects of the new stage of development of the state Prevention Policy were presented, and then discussions were held on the allocation of funds and strategies for implementation.
The meeting was attended, on behalf of SPVD, by the Secretary of Violence and Drug Prevention, Cloves Benevides; the Secretary of Social Defense, Humberto Freire; the Press Secretary, Eduardo Machado; the National Coordinator of the Pernambuco Cooperation, Paula Guedes; the Technical Advisor of the Pernambuco Cooperation, Márcia Ribeiro; the Executive Secretary of Management by Results, Teresa Araújo.
Representing UNODC were the coordinator of the Crime and Violence Prevention Programme of Pernambuco, Eduardo Pazinato and the Monitoring and Evaluation analysts, Antonio Lima and Rafael Sales.
On the occasion, Eduardo Pazinato presented the Logical Framework for Crime and Violence Prevention in the state, which structures and systematizes the efforts in this area, directing it to clear, achievable and measurable goals. The next step in UNODC's work in the state will be to structure the Indicators Matrix that will measure the results of the crime and violence prevention strategy implemented.
According to Pazinato, "the governor of Pernambuco has decided to concretely support the State of Pernambuco in the agenda of violence prevention as an integrated and evidence-based strategy to deepen the reduction of lethal victimization and violent crimes in the framework of the Pact for Life", he stated.
On the occasion, a preliminary version of the Prevention Observatory data dashboard, designed by the Igarapé Institute, was also presented.
Launching of the Prevention Policy - On 21 September, the State Government of Pernambuco will launch a new strategy for the prevention of crime and violence in the state. The policy was designed under the coordination of SPVD and based on the Logical Framework methodology conducted by UNODC.
