The Center for Drug Studies and Community Social Development – CDESC was established to support the public policies of the National Secretariat for Drug Policies and Asset Management (SENAD) under the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP). Its mission includes developing innovative strategies aimed at promoting sustainable development.
CDESC works to strengthen policies that advance the understanding of structural factors contributing to drug-related issues, such as social inequality, poverty, and racism. The center’s actions focus on promoting human rights, both in urban and rural areas, with special attention to more vulnerable groups.
One of the project's primary activities is conducting technical research and studies that provide valuable information on drugs, community, and social development. CDESC uses this data to influence human, inclusive, and strategically aligned decisions that meet societal needs.
CDESC operates through technical advisory services, research development, data production, and trend analysis on drugs. It supports the design and implementation of initiatives that foster social and community development, promoting sustainable and inclusive alternatives to reduce the impacts of drug trafficking in affected areas.
CDESC develops, promotes, and supports relevant research and studies to generate applied and specialized knowledge on drugs, community, and social development.
CDESC provides advice for theBrazilian government on how to enhance drug policies and innovative strategies oriented towards community and social development.
CDESC produces data and analyzes trends on drugs, new psychoactive substances (NPS), and related topics, combined with the application of specialized technologies and methodological strategies.
CDESC proposes innovative projects, focusing on the articulation of civil society, partners, and reference experts in drug policies and related topics.
CDESC is a core entity capable of systematizing, analyzing, and disseminating knowledge strategically and with appropriate language for a wide range of audiences.
CDESC is the result of a partnership between the National Secretariat for Drug Policies (SENAD) of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
