Headquartered in Vienna, Austria, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime operates globally through its extensive programs, employing 2,500 staff members and maintaining field offices in 80 countries.
Since 1991, UNODC operates from its main office in Brasilia. In recent years, two additional field offices were strategically established in the cities of Manaus and Santarém, within the Amazon Rainforest. In order to implement its project portfolio, enhance the statistical and analytical capacities of institutions, foster partnerships with key national stakeholders, and develop strategies for international technical cooperation, UNODC in Brazil currently employs over 85 personnel stationed across all regions of the country.
Always grounded in scientific evidence, UNODC works directly with Governments, Ministries, Security Forces, as well as Justice, Health, and Prison Systems at Federal, State, and Municipal levels.
UNODC bases its work on the three international drug control conventions, conventions against transnational organized crime and corruption, and international instruments against terrorism.
The goal of UNODC is to make the world safer from drugs, organized crime, corruption, and terrorism by combating these threats to achieve health, safety, and justice for all, while promoting peace and sustainable well-being.
UNODC offers technical assistance to member states across a broad range of areas, including health, criminal justice, and public safety. This support encompasses drug use prevention and control, combating transnational organized crime, addressing illicit drug and arms trafficking, human trafficking, and corruption. Additionally, UNODC assists in prison reform, money laundering, asset management and recovery, HIV prevention among drug users and individuals in detention.
UNODC is committed to supporting member states in implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which recognizes that the rule of law, effective and humane security and justice systems, health promotion, and drug prevention are part of sustainable development.
