In addition to addressing trafficking, UNODC also focuses on the prevention, treatment, and care related to drug use, in accordance with the three International Drug Control Conventions, namely: 

• the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs of 1961, as amended by the 1972 Protocol; 
• the Convention on Psychotropic Substances of 1971; and 
• the United Nations Convention against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances of 1988.
   

UNODC contributes to the development of technical studies and analyses related to illicit drugs, community social development, as well as alternative development, with the aim of providing subsidies for the improvement of evidence-based public policies.

UNODC also collaborates to strengthen national drug use prevention programs, contributing its expertise in implementing internationally recognized strategies.
