AIRCOP

AIRCOP

AIRCOP is a multi-agency initiative based on cooperation between UNODC, Interpol, and the World Customs Organization (WCO). It aims to strengthen the capabilities of international airports to detect and intercept drugs, other illicit goods, and high-risk passengers, as part of the fight against illicit drugs and other illegal commodities (such as wildlife products or counterfeit medical products), terrorism-related threats (such as weapons or potential foreign terrorist fighters), human trafficking and smuggling of migrants.

AIRCOP is currently implemented in 41 airports across Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, the Middle East, Southeastern Europe, and Southeast Asia

AIRCOP in Brazil

Brazil officially joined AIRCOP as an Associated Country in 2016 by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Federal Police of Brazil, thus incorporating the INTERCOPS Project, based at the biggest airport in Latin America, Guarulhos International Airport, in São Paulo, into the AIRCOP network. A further cooperation was also established with the Federal Revenue Service (Receita Federal).

AIRCOP cooperation with the INTERCOPS project and Brazilian customs has flourished in recent years through collaboration in training activities and information sharing between networks, particularly through AIRCOP secure communication network, the Customs Enforcement Network Communication Platform (CENcomm) of the World Customs Organization (WCO), which led to favorable outcomes.

Similarly, collaboration has not been limited to the Latin America and Caribbean region. INTERCOPS and Brazil have worked with AIRCOP JAITFs in Africa and the Middle East, making significant contributions to AIRCOP capacity-building activities worldwide.

AIRCOP is funded by the European Union, under the Global Illicit Flows Programme, through the Instrument contributing to Stability and Peace. It also receives funding from Australia, Canada, France, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America.
