The Portuguese language is one of the most widely used languages in the world, used by more than 265 million people, from Africa to America, from Asia to Europe. In a rapid process of expansion and growth, it is an important vehicle of social and cultural integration among peoples and countries.
The Education for Justice initiative, winner of the United Nations Secretary-General 2020 award in the Innovation category, is an innovative and comprehensive initiative designed to support educators in teaching new generations to better understand and solve problems that can undermine the rule of law. The initiative is part of the Global Programme for the Implementation of the Doha Declaration, adopted in 2015 by the 13th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, which recognizes the fundamental importance of universal education of children and youth for the prevention of crime, terrorism, corruption, and the promotion of peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development.
On 5 May 2020, the Education for Justice (E4J) initiative launched its Portuguese language website. Therefore, on 5 May, we celebrate the successes of a year of Portuguese language events, as well as all the partners, teachers, and students who, throughout the year, have voluntarily collaborated in the translation and dissemination of the various E4J materials for primary, secondary and tertiary levels.
