Brasilia, 20 September 2021 - The National Council of Justice (CNJ) has opened registrations for the 3rd edition of its National Forum on Alternatives to Imprisonment (Fonape). The event will be held from 28 to 30 September, with the theme "Mass Imprisonment and Alternatives to Prison: 30 years of the United Nations Tokyo Rules".
Five years after the last edition, the event will have an unprecedented international focus, promoting an up-to-date debate in the field of alternatives to imprisonment through the contributions of specialists from different areas in Brazil and globally.
The 3rd Fonape will integrate activities from the Fazendo Justiça Programme, a partnership between the CNJ and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with support from the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP), involving 28 simultaneous actions to counter challenges in the area of deprivation of liberty. The programme also counts with the partnership of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in practices concerning custody hearing.
In addition to panels with experts and the launch of several technical products, the 3rd Fonape will host the closing of the Higher Studies on Custody Hearings, concluding the cycle of shared experiences amongst the Brazilian Judiciary to strengthen custody hearings nationwide.
To access the translation of conferences, one must register to the event and attend the panels through the online Zoom platform. The links to access the panels will be available with the confirmation of registration. The event will also be broadcasted on CNJ's Youtube channel, yet without simultaneous translation.
Registration is open to the general public and a certificate will be provided at the end of the event.
