On August 20 and 21, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a strategic planning workshop for the development of the Brazil-UNODC Partnership Program for the Promotion of South-South and Trilateral Cooperation. The event took place at the Itamaraty Palace in Brasilia and brought together representatives from various Brazilian government institutions, as well as experts from UNODC and ABC.
The central objective of the workshop was to align the expectations of the parties involved and define cooperation priorities between 2025 and 2029, marking the resumption of the strategic partnership between ABC and UNODC to face the challenges of Brazil and the countries of the Global South in preventing and combating crimes in the area of drugs, corruption, illicit trafficking, transnational organized crime, as well as their convergence with environmental crimes.
At the opening table, the UN Resident Coordinator in Brazil, Ms. Silvia Rucks, the Director of UNODC in Brazil, Ms. Elena Abbati, and ABC's General Coordinator for Planning and Communication, Councillor Paulo Lima, highlighted the strategic relevance of South-South and Trilateral Cooperation for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the promotion of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
At the end of the workshop, participants started drafting a document that will form the foundation for the partnership program to be established between the two institutions.
