STORY
UNODC kicks off Corporate Integrity Training for Small and Medium Enterprises in Brazil

On 11 July 2024, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Brazil kicked off the Corporate Integrity Training for Small and Medium Enterprises, with the institutional support of SEBRAE. The first session of the training was attended by 35 participants, representing 20 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

The aim of the training was to disseminate applied knowledge and promote corporate integrity among the participating SMEs, based on the presentation of Brazilian regulatory frameworks, such as the Anti-Corruption Law (Law No. 12,846/2013); Decree No. 1,129/2022; the Brazilian Office of the Comptroller General’sOrdinance No. 909/2015; the New Law on Tenders and Administrative Contracts (Law No. 14,133/2021); as well as the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC).

The first session presented the basic concepts of Business Integrity, the UNCAC, as the only binding global instrument for combating corruption and promoting integrity. In the following sessions, participants, supported by UNODC experts, conducted a corruption and integrity risk assessment of their own organization using UNODC's educational resources, including through utilizing a risk matrix to create an initial mitigation plan with recommendations.

The second session of the training took place on 25 July  2024, at the SEBRAE Auditorium and included the participation of the UN Global Compact Brazil Network and the Alliance for Integrity. This session focused on how to prioritize and mitigate the corruption and integrity risks identified by the participating companies based on the theoretical and practical discussion held in the previous session.
