Rio de Janeiro, 25 November 2022 - The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Brazil, in partnership with UNODC Mozambique and the Stolen Assets Initiative (StAR), a partnership between UNODC and the World Bank, participated in the "Latin American Conference of Public Attorneys and Prosecutors (ALAP)", held in the city of Rio de Janeiro, from 21 to 23 November 2022.
The event was attended by high-level authorities from Latin America, ALAP representatives, international and national guests, such as the Attorney General of the Federal Government (Attorney General of the Union - AGU), Bruno Bianco Leal.
Organized in five technical panels related to ALAP, the conference addressed the topics of Legal Defense of the State, Human Rights, Fighting Corruption, International Legal Cooperation and International Arbitration.
UNODC participated in the panels on Fighting Corruption, addressing anti-corruption initiatives carried out under the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC); and on International Legal Cooperation, focusing on the work done under the StAR. At the end of the event, he participated in meetings to discuss cooperation in asset recovery and other anti-corruption issues, together with members of AGU, ALAP, and StAR.
About ALAP - is an inter-institutional mechanism of cooperation between the bodies responsible for representing and defending the legal interests of 11 Latin American countries: Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Honduras, Guatemala, Panama, Paraguay and Peru. The Association works for integration among institutions to improve their functions of representation and defence of the State through the exchange of technical experiences, information and good practices.
