The goal of the meeting was to discuss and elaborate an outline for a teachers' guide, which would include modules on 14 topics. The outcome of the meeting was a draft outline, containing modules that take a comprehensive approach to the topic of firearms, reflecting its complex and multidisciplinary nature and responses thereto, as well as their implications for human security. The proposed modules and support materials would allow educators to integrate them into existing courses or use them as a standalone course, while taking into account the need for contextualization and adaptation to make the content relevant to their audience and settings.
At the workshop, nine experts developed topics for potential inclusion in the Firearms Curriculum. They also made recommendations regarding incentives for student and faculty participation in the curriculum, as well as the launch of the curriculum with a pilot to test it's effectiveness and feasibility. Actual cases were delivered to the consultant as well as many specific sources for cases.
