Guidelines to develop a stand-alone course

The topics presented in this Module provide a good basis for a stand-alone course, with each topic providing the subject matter of one or more modules within the course. The six topics within the Module could each provide the basis for a separate lecture and class discussion. If lecturers wished to extend the stand-alone course beyond six sessions then some topics are suitable for dividing in two. For example: the materials on the United Nations Model Strategies and Practical Measures on the Elimination of Violence against Children in the Field of Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice could form the basis for a full session (lecture and class discussion).

The content discussed within these various topics can be tailored to address local priorities, needs or interests. The Advanced Reading section provides suggestions that would be useful for a stand-alone course, and to promote applied learning these materials could be complemented by relevant local materials (including case law, legislation, NGO reports, academic materials, and media articles on various aspects of violence against children).
