Organized crime and terrorism: International legal framework
The following sections outline the various international instruments designed to combat terrorism and organized crime: First, a brief discussion is provided of the international framework on terrorism, which includes the 19 international instruments designed to counter terrorism recognized by the United Nations, as well as a selection of United Nations Security Council resolutions (for further information on this topic, see Module 4 of the E4J University Module Series on Counter-Terrorism). Second, the international framework on transnational organized crime is examined by discussing the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime and its three supplementing Protocols against Trafficking in Persons, Smuggling of Migrants and Trafficking in Firearms.
