Series of seminars on the use of E4J university modules at Central Asian universities

 

During February and March 2021, a series of seminars on the application of E4J university modules for teaching at the tertiary level were held at Central Asian universities.

Mrs. Zhyldyz Tegizbekova, Consultant of the UNODC Global Firearms Program and Associate Professor, KAZGUU, AlaToo International University, organized the following seminars:

  • The E4J Seminar: "University Modules in the Context of the Education for Justice Initiative" (offline), Kyrgyz State Law University (KSLU), February 2021.
  • The Central Asian Seminar: "Application of E4J modules in the educational process: Introduction to Counter-Terrorism and Firearms modules" (online), AlaToo International University, February 2021.
  • The E4J Workshop: “Adaptation of E4J university modules in the educational process: Examples of practical application” (online), Kyrgyz State Law University, March 2021.

 

1. E4J Seminar: “University modules in the context of the Education for Justice initiative”, 6 February 2021

Professor Zhyldyz Tegizbekova was the speaker at the E4J Seminar. She gave a lecture on the E4J initiative and the E4J university module series. The seminar discussed new teaching methods including online and interactive tuition, and also provided more detailed information in particular about the Firearms and Counter-terrorism modules.

The Speaker provided training on how to use the E4J modules and their lectures, materials and exercises. The modules offer a new approach to teaching (exemplified by the modules on firearms and counter-terrorism), based on innovative teaching materials and methods that can help students develop critical thinking skills and prepare them for meaningful and effective action.

30 faculty members and staff of the KSLU participated in the Seminar.

 

2. Central Asian Seminar: "Application of E4J modules in the educational process: Introduction to Counter-Terrorism and Firearms modules", AlaToo International University, 27 February 2021

The Central Asian seminar was held for faculty and staff, researchers, postgraduates and students. The seminar discussed new teaching methods and provided more detailed information about the E4J university modules and application. The speaker elaborated on the Education for Justice (E4J) initiative, which aims to prevent crime and promote a culture of rule of law through educational activities aimed at primary, secondary and tertiary levels of education.

The organizer and speaker of the seminar, Prof. Zhyldyz Tegizbekova, conducted an analysis of the E4J modules on the example of modules on firearms and counter-terrorism. Zhyldyz shared her experience of using E4J teaching materials and methods. Using the example of her lesson on the topic "The Right to Life", Prof. Tegizbekova showed how the firearms and counter-terrorism modules can be integrated in the educational process.

This seminar was conducted in an online format and was attended by 26 teachers, researchers and students from Central Asian countries and Europe. As a result of the seminar, the participants agreed on further joint work, including holding the similar seminars to promote culture of lawfulness in Central Asia.

 

3. E4J Workshop: “Adaptation of E4J university modules in the educational process: Examples of practical application”, Kyrgyz State Law University, 1 March2021

The goal of the workshop was to demonstrate how E4J modules can be used in practice to prepare for learning. This seminar was conducted in an online format and was organized for teachers, researchers and students from Central Asia.

The speaker of the seminar, Prof. Zhyldyz Tegizbekova, provided an analysis of the E4J modules on firearms and counter-terrorism. With the example of her lesson on the topic "The Right to a Fair Trial", she demonstrated how E4J modules can be integrated in the university curricula.

This seminar was attended by 22 participants.

It is planned to conduct further seminars of this kind for teachers and researchers from Central Asian countries in future.
