National Workshop on Whistleblower Protection in Paraguay
Whistle-blower protection has been identified as a priority area withing the Regional Platform for South America and Mexico. The workshop gathered 90 government officials to discuss the importance of having an adequate infrastructure to receive reports about misconduct and to protect those who dare to speak up. Establishing and strengthening coordination mechanisms and creating transparent public procurement processes will help respond to and recover from the COVID-19 crisis and possible future crisis.

The objective of the event was to foster South-South Cooperation from experts of the Comptroller Office of Colombia, who, during the event explained their experience with the software Oceano, which collects and analyses data to prevent and detect corruption.

UNODC supported the webinar “Integrity Pacts: A Commitment to Fight Corruption Together”, organized by the Argentinian-German Chamber of Commerce (AHK-AR). UNODC highlighted the key role of the private sector in the fight against corruption, including through the effective implementation of programmes of corporate compliance.

The Training had a focus on the relevance of UNCAC in the fight against corruption, with a special emphasis on access to public information (art. 10), organized in conjunction with the Latin American Network for Legislative Transparency and attended by 35 participants of civil society organizations.

Botswana is one of 8 countries that are part of the regional platform created to fast-track the implementation of the UN Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) in Southern Africa. Whistle-blower protection has been identified as one of the key priorities in the region. The workshop aims to support Botswana in strengthening their mechanisms to report and protect reporting persons from retaliation.
