Regional Platform to Fast-Track the Implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) in Central America
The platform, including the 6 Central American countries Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, was launched at a high-level conference held from 25 to 27 April in Roatán, Honduras.
During the event, authorities, together with representatives of civil society, private sector and development partners, shared experiences, best practices and challenges at the national and regional level in the implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC). The discussions allowed participants to agree on a roadmap for 2023-2025 to fast-track the implementation of the UNCAC in the region. It contains 5 thematic areas for which objectives and concrete activities were identified to prevent and address corruption.

Conference to launch the Regional Platform to Fast-track the Implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) in the Caribbean.
Convened in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, from 09 to 11 October, the Platform was successfully launched. During the conference, representatives from Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, and Trinidad and Tobago, and civil society representatives, shared experiences, best practices and challenges at the national and regional level countering corruption. Emphasis was notably placed on the effective enactment of both the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) and the Interamerican Convention against Corruption. The dialogues culminated in a consensus on a strategic roadmap for 2023-2025, segmented into four thematic areas, aiming to fast-track the implementation of the UNCAC in the region.

Regional workshop on the role and benefits of specialized bodies in financial investigations and asset recovery
The regional workshop brought together specialized representatives in financial and corruption investigations and asset recovery in West Africa and the Sahel. Their goal was to identify strategies to enhance their ability to combat financial crime and corruption while reinforcing the role of asset recovery authorities.
Interactive dialogue between countries and international experts to improve financial investigations and the management of seized and confiscated assets is an objective.

Regional Workshop on the Gender Dimensions of Corruption
The workshop’s primary objective was to explore effective ways to integrate gender perspectives across the four priority anti-corruption thematic areas of the platform, including financial investigations and capacity building of investigation and prosecution services, asset recovery, protection of whistle-blowers and reporting persons, and strengthening integrity systems. Gathering government representatives, civil society and development partners, participants explored how corruption impacts women and men differently and how gender equality and inclusion can have a positive effect in tackling corruption in the six platform countries.
The workshop was the first of its kind within the Fast-tracking UNCAC implementation methodology – but not the last!

Conference on combating corruption:
The challenges of regional cooperation in the implementation of the UNCAC
The conference brought together SADC countries to discuss two anti-corruption priorities: national and regional coordination and public procurement. The overall objective was to agree on a common roadmap for all SADC members containing a set of recommendations and commitments for realization of the two anti-corruption priorities moving forward.

Held at the University of Mostar and organized by the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption and Coordination of the Fight against Corruption of Bosnia and Herzegovina, University of Mostar and UNODC, the roundtable analysed and discussed the challenges and opportunities in the fight against corruption with the goal of identifying concrete measures and strategies for prevention and the fight against corruption in the education sector.

Training on ISO 37001 Anti-Bribery management standard in North Macedonia
UNODC organized a training on ISO 37001 Anti-Bribery Management Systems for the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister of North Macedonia in charge of Good Governance. The training aimed at the development and implementation of an Anti-Bribery ISO 37001 standard in the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister with the main goal to achieve a modern and effective working environment certified under this standard.

Developing practical guidance to support the implementation of Codes of Conduct in Bosnia and Herzegovina
The three-day workshop, coordinated by UNODC and BiH Ministry of Security gathered senior staff from the BiH Border Police, the State Investigation and Protection Agency and the Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies to discuss specific integrity matters relevant for law enforcement and develop a set of concrete examples linked to the local context. These will be subject to further discussion within each law enforcement institution and used to complement their codes of conduct.

The three-day workshop focused on the development of Fast Action Response Guides on Asset Recovery to enable authorities of Montenegro and North Macedonia to identify and determine available actions, resources and tools needed to conduct the investigations and recover the proceeds of crime.

Regional Conference on Fast Tracking the Implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption in Central Asia
The regional platform for Central Asia, with the focus on Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, was established at a high-level regional conference held in Tashkent on 2 and 3 November 2023.
The founding documents of the platform contain the list of areas identified as priorities by the participating countries, including preventive measures against corruption, combating corruption in the corporate and private sectors, asset recovery and international cooperation, criminalization and investigation of corruption offenses.
Significant attention will be given to the sharing of best practices among the participating countries and coordination of international donor efforts in the region.

Conference to Reinvigorate the Regional Platform to Fast-Track the Implementation of UNCAC in Southeast Asia
In 2017, the UNODC set up a platform to fast-track the implementation of the UN Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) in Southeast Asia. The regional platform approach seeks to identify gaps in existing efforts to implement the Convention coordinate and leverage the work of technical assistance providers while overall promoting better regional coordination and collaboration. The regional conference aimed to build momentum and support for implementing the key areas identified under this platform.
The anti-corruption platform has expanded with the inclusion of Mongolia. 12 countries are now united in their commitment to combat corruption effectively in the region.
