10 October 2024, Lahore - UNODC successfully conducted two consultative sessions in Lahore for the Punjab Prosecution Department and Punjab Prison Department. Held on 8 and 9 October, these sessions were attended by forty participants and built upon previous efforts to identify essential upgrades for the Case Flow Management System (CFMS) and its integration with the Prison Management Information System (PMIS). The discussions primarily focused on the establishment of a data center for the Prosecution Department, procurement of equipment, and forging critical linkages between the CFMS and PMIS.
This project, funded by the U.S. Embassy's Office of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL), represents a key initiative aimed at linking the Punjab Prosecution Department’s Case Flow Management System (CFMS) with the Punjab Prisons Department’s Prison Management Information System (PMIS). By integrating these platforms, the initiative will significantly enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the justice delivery process in Punjab.
In keeping with INL's commitment to reinforcing Pakistan's Criminal Justice System, and in support of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals, the UNODC has forged a strong alliance with the Punjab Prosecution Department, Punjab Prisons Department, and the Punjab Information Technology Board. This partnership is designed to enhance communication and facilitate the sharing of expertise, data, and technological advancements.
The integration of CFMS and PMIS will help address prison overcrowding by ensuring the timely resolution of under-trial prisoner (UTP) cases. Additionally, by tackling the disparities in IT infrastructure and digital management across provinces, the project emphasizes gender-sensitive strategies to ensure efficient, transparent, and effective case management, ultimately strengthening the justice system in Punjab.
This initiative fundamentally focuses on protecting fair trial rights while striving to accelerate justice processes within Criminal Justice Institutions. By improving collaboration through data sharing and building new partnerships among stakeholders, it will contribute to the progressive development of Pakistan’s justice system.
