6 September 2024, Quetta - The Balochistan Levies Force is vital to preserving law and order in some of the most tough and remote locations. Given the particular conflict-sensitive situation in Balochistan, it is critical to provide the Levies Force with the required training, tools, and skills to carry out their responsibilities. Strengthening their competencies not only increases their operating efficiency, but also assures that they can respond quickly and effectively to any security risks within the province of Balochistan.
UNODC Pakistan, in collaboration with Balochistan Levies Force, has successfully completed a 3-day comprehensive training from 3-5 September 2024, on the essential functions of Muharrars. Supported by the European Union's Deliver Justice Project, the training was facilitated by UNODC’s experts, equipping officers with crucial skills in case file management, record keeping, and related functions. Participants engaged in lectures and group discussions led by experienced facilitators from UNODC.
The training also focused on the roles and responsibilities of Muharrars, emphasizing their critical functions as clerks, accountants, and record keepers. Through a blend of lectures, discussions, and group tasks, participants learned how to effectively manage these responsibilities, ensuring their continuous presence at Levies Stations and maintaining the security of the premises.
The training participants of 22 Levies Officers, that also included 2 female Levies Officers, were sensitized to deliver specialized tasks such as handling Levies Station lockups, managing public and case property, and preparing history sheets. These tasks are crucial for maintaining the integrity and safety of the stations, and the interactive format of the session allowed participants to practice these skills in a supportive environment.
The final day of the training focused, among other topics, on mastering case file management, which is a core responsibility of Muharrars. The training concluded with a review session, where participants had the opportunity to ask questions, provide feedback, and discuss the way forward.
The successful completion of this training marks a significant step forward in enhancing the operational efficiency of the Balochistan Levies Force. The skills and knowledge imparted during these three days will enable Muharrars to perform their duties with greater precision and responsibility, ultimately contributing to the safety and security of the communities they serve.
