25 February 2025, Islamabad - A strong and enduring partnership between Pakistan, Canada, and UNODC is driving transformative advancements in security, law enforcement, and judicial governance. With the financial support of the Government of Canada, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Country Office Pakistan continues to work closely with the Government of Pakistan to enhance institutional capabilities, address emerging security threats, and promote human rights and gender responsiveness within law enforcement and criminal justice sectors.
Advancing Aviation Security: 360° Body Scanners for ASF
As part of this collaboration, a Canadian delegation, led by Her Excellency Leslie Scanlon, High Commissioner of Canada to Pakistan, and UNODC Country Representative Troels Vester, officially handed over advanced 360° body scanners to the Airports Security Force (ASF) in Karachi. The small ceremony at ASF Headquarters marked a significant step toward modernizing passenger screening, reinforcing border control, and preventing illicit trafficking.
Speaking at the event, Director General ASF, Major General Adnan Asif Jah Shad, emphasized the critical role of these scanners in enhancing aviation security, ensuring a safer and more efficient screening process at major airports across Pakistan.
Empowering Law Enforcement: Inauguration of the eLearning Centre at CTD Sindh Police
In another milestone event, UNODC and the Government of Canada, in collaboration with NACTA and Sindh Police, inaugurated a state-of-the-art eLearning Centre at the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Sindh Police.
The facility provides law enforcement personnel with access to over 150 specialized training modules, covering counter-terrorism strategies, cybercrime investigations, and violent extremism prevention.
IGP Sindh, Muzaffar Ali Shaikh, underscored the importance of digital learning in equipping officers with critical investigative skills. Her Excellency Leslie Scanlon engaged with participants, acknowledging the contributions of Sindh Police in addressing security challenges in Karachi. She emphasized the importance of continuous training for frontline officers to stay ahead of evolving security threats.
Modernizing the Judiciary: Launch of CAMS by PM Shehbaz Sharif
The visit concluded in Islamabad, where Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif officially launched the Case Assignment & Management System (CAMS)—a cutting-edge digital platform designed to streamline case tracking, enhance judicial transparency, and ensure faster case resolution.
Speaking at the event, UNODC Country Representative Troels Vester described CAMS as a historic milestone in modernizing Pakistan’s legal system. High Commissioner Leslie Scanlon reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to justice reform, highlighting Canada’s support for accountability, transparency, and efficiency in the judiciary.
With these transformative steps, and support from Canada, UNODC COPAK reaffirm its commitment to strengthening Pakistan’s security, governance, and justice systems. This strategic partnership continues to drive meaningful reforms for a safer and more transparent future.
