The choice of Malaga responds to the previous commitment of CIFAL Malaga with the members of the United Nations Evaluation Group (UNEG) in carrying out activities for the development of evaluation capacities.
The city of Malaga will host this year, from 29 January to 2 February, the EvalWeek 2024 (United Nations Evaluation Week), which will bring together more than 120 evaluation officers from different UN entities. This major international event is organized by the United Nations Evaluation Group (UNEG), an inter-agency professional network that brings together the evaluation units of the UN system, including departments, specialized agencies, funds and programmes and affiliated organizations.
In addition, EvalWeek 2024 will also be organized by the evaluation functions of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in collaboration with CIFAL Malaga. With this annual event, the United Nations seeks to deepen the exchange of knowledge about its evaluation system.
Finally, on 1-2 February, the Annual General Meeting, UNEG's main decision-making body, will be held, providing the forum for the heads of UNEG to discuss, adopt and review the five-year strategy, review the progress and results of the previous annual work programme and determine the work programme for the coming year.
UNEG Evaluation Week has traditionally been organized in UN headquarters cities such as Washington, DC (2023), Nairobi (2019), Rome (2018) and Vienna (2017). In alignment with the decentralization and innovation efforts undertaken by the United Nations as part of the organization's management reforms led by Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, this will be the first time that UNEG EvalWeek will take place outside a UN headquarters.
Precisely, the choice of Malaga responds to this commitment to innovation and decentralization, as well as the previous commitment of CIFAL Malaga with UNEG members in the implementation of activities for the development of evaluation capacities. Participation in the UNEG General Annual Meeting is restricted to heads of evaluation from member entities, working group coordinators and invited guests (affiliated to UN organizations).
In total, seventy participants are expected to attend this Annual General Meeting, which will be held at the Miramar Hotel and will include the participation of Fatoumata Ndiaye, UN Under-Secretary-General for Internal Oversight Services.
