On the International Day of Women Judges: Insights from Italy's Minister of Justice, Mr. Carlo Nordio
“Women often are victims of violence because they lack socio-economic independence. Being independent means being free: free to work, to live without impositions, to choose what is best for yourself. The achievement of that freedom for a real gender equality shall be a priority for the International Community and I salute the tremendous efforts made by UNODC in implementing ad hoc initiatives to reach such a goal. Italy is committed to create concrete international partnerships with States and International Organisations in order to invest in human resources and remove the remaining obstacles to the development of women’s full potential in society, including in the justice sector. Women empowerment is not an option but a necessary development for more just, resilient and prosperous societies. A key investment we owe to present and future generations!”
