Working Group on the Smuggling of Migrants, 11th Session

Vienna, Austria, 11 and 12 July 2024

In its resolution 7/1, entitled "Strengthening the implementation of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime and the Protocols thereto", the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime decided that the Working Group on Smuggling of Migrants will be a constant element of the Conference.

This year, the two topics to be discussed will be:

Preventing and combatting the smuggling of migrants through international cooperation while addressing its root causes, in line with the provisions of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime and the Protocols thereto;

Protection and assistance measures for smuggled migrants.

The Co-Chairs of the 11th Working Group on the Smuggling of Migrants

Ms. Vasiliki Kakosimou, Head of the Directorate of Support of Asylum Service at the Greek Ministry of Migration and Asylum and Mr. Francesco Testa, Prosecutor at the European Public Prosecutor Office (EPPO) of Italy, have been selected again as the Co-Chairs of this meeting of the Working Group.
