The Challenge of New Psychoactive SubstancesGlobal SMART Programme |
||
The synthetic drug market has always been characterized by a large variety of substances. In recent years, new psychoactive substances (NPS) have rapidly emerged in this market purportedly as "legal" alternatives to internationally controlled drugs, causing similar effects to the latter, with the potential to pose serious risks to public health and safety. This report describes the main groups of NPS on the market including known adverse effects, their global spread and trafficking. An annex provides chemical information on substance names and molecule structures. |
