The rule of law is an integral part of the work of the United Nations. In his report “Our Common Agenda”, the Secretary-General pledged to “promote a new vision for the rule of law, building on Sustainable Development Goal 16 and the 2012 Declaration of the High-level Meeting of the General Assembly on the Rule of Law at the National and International Levels”.
The new vision articulates the challenges and required responses of the United Nations system to implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and making sure people are at the centre.
