In the story, why are you afraid of the books?
At first, I got scared of the books because I thought they were all laughing at me. There were so many of them, and I didn’t know them. The unknown can be scary. But then Handy reached out to me with her very big and super gentle hands, which helped me breathe and calm down. Then the librarian showed me the books and how to read them, so that I can work towards my dream of becoming an astronaut. Learning how to read them helped me overcome my fear. I understood that the books were really smiling with me – not laughing at me!
Does it not bother you to have such large ears?
At first, sometimes other children used to tease me for having such large ears and that made me sad. But then I learned I could actually use them to listen better, hear things even more – even how people were secretly feeling - and I learned I could help others. I started to appreciate that I am different. My difference was also my gift, a super power I could learn. Now I focus on the opportunities my large ears give me – especially to learn new things and to help other children.
Do you like your superpower to hear everything?
Yes – I do! But it is a big responsibility. I always think it is better to try and do something rather than just not listen. Because it can also be hard to hear when others are sad and treated unfairly – that upsets me too. But that also helps me learn my superpower of compassion. And now I can help other children to learn their superpowers too. So I am grateful to be able to hear everything – good and bad things. (And being grateful is another superpower!). Great to meet you, and thank you for asking such great questions.
