Launch of the Regional Platform for Central America

REGIONAL ANTI-CORRUPTION CONFERENCE CENTRAL AMERICA | HONDURAS 25-27 April 2023

The platform, including the 6 Central American countries Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, was launched at a high-level conference held from 25 to 27 April in Roatán, Honduras.

The platform aims for authorities and representatives of civil society, private sector and development partners to share experiences, best practices and challenges at the national and regional level in the implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) focusing on 5 thematic areas including systems of integrity in the public sector; transparency and integrity in public procurement; corruption prevention in the private sector;

corruption reporting and whistle-blower and witness protection; and investigation, prosecution, and international cooperation in corruption cases. Cross-cutting themes including a human rights perspective, gender equality, and the use of technology to promote transparency and access to information, and accountability are considered.

LAUNCH OF THE REGIONAL PLATFORM FOR WEST AND SAHEL AFRICA

REGIONAL ANTI-CORRUPTION CONFERENCE WEST AFRICA AND THE SAHEL | SENEGAL 21-25 NOVEMBER 2022

About 80 participants gathered in Dakar, Senegal for the Regional Conference on Fast-Tracking the Implementation of the UN Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) in West Africa and the Sahel.

During the conference the first francophone anti-corruption platform was established that helps participating countries of West and Sahel Africa, Burkina Faso, Chad, Cote d’Ivoire, Mauritania, Niger and Senegal, identify challenges and gaps in their approach of tackling corruption. Four priority areas which call for increased efforts to prevent and combat corruption have been identified: Financial investigations and strengthening investigation and prosecution services; Protection of whistle-blowers and reporting persons; Strengthening integrity systems and Asset recovery.

REGIONAL PLATFORM FOR SOUTHERN AFRICA

CONFERENCE ON COMBATING CORRUPTION:
THE CHALLENGES OF REGIONAL COOPERATION IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE UNCAC | ANGOLA 29 May – 2 June 2023

High-level officials, technical experts and representatives of civil society, the private sector and academia of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) met in Luanda to develop and agree on a regional roadmap for tangible anti-corruption action in two priority areas: national and regional cooperation and public procurement. The roadmap guides collective anti-corruption activities of SADC countries in the years to come.

CREATION OF THE REGIONAL PLATFORM FOR SOUTHERN AFRICA
REGIONAL ANTI-CORRUPTION CONFERENCE SOUTHERN AFRICA | ZAMBIA 14-18 OCTOBER 2019

About 100 high-level officials from Angola, Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe, together with representatives of civil society, private sector and development partners, met in Livingstone, Zambia from the 14 to 18 October 2019. The aim was to study and analyse the substantive aspects of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) and to promote the creation of partnerships in the region to accelerate its implementation to support the achievement and realization of Sustainable Development Goal 16 in Southern Africa.

Regional Platform for South America and Mexico

REGIONAL ANTI-CORRUPTION CONFERENCE LATIN AMERICA | COLOMBIA 6-10 MAY 2019

High-Level officials, technical experts and representatives of civil society, private sector and development partners from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay gathered in Cartagena, in Colombia, for the Regional Anti-corruption Conference in Latin America from 6 to 10 May 2019.

This conference seeked to foster partnerships and create a regional platform to fast track the implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption in support of Sustainable Development Goal 16 in Latin America.

REGIONAL MEETING OF THE PLATFORM FOR SOUTH AMERICA AND MEXICO |
MEXICO CITY 14-17 MARCH 2022

The purpose of this meeting was to transition the regional platform into a second phase of implementation supported by the UNODC anti-corruption hub of regional and international experts, which will continue to promote South-South cooperation, the exchange of good practices and the provision of technical assistance to participating countries.
