On 10-12 July in Dakar, Senegal UNODC organized a regional seminar on legislative harmonisation and good practices for the implementation of the Firearms Protocol. Information about the presentations and the group discussions is available in the seminar report, which can be downloaded here.
The objective of the seminar was to provide an update and share experience in the implementation of the Firearms Protocol by the countries in the region based on a comparative legislative analysis of the domestic firearms legislations. A specific objective was to identify specific legislative development and technical assistance needs.
The participants included government experts and representatives from the judiciary and civil society organizations from the countries in West Africa including Benin, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Mauritania, Senegal, The Gambia and Togo.
The seminar was funded by the European Commission under the Instrument for Stability.
