From 29 November to 1 December 2016, UNODC organized in N'Djamena, Chad, a three-day workshop on legal drafting relating to the legislative framework of Firearms and ammunition in the country.
The workshop was aimed to promote adherence and implementation of the Firearms Protocol and to explain the synergies between all the international and regional instruments relating to the subject. UNODC also presented a legislative assessment and a gap analysis of the national legislation and provided legal drafting support, notably through the presentation of a model law.
The workshop brought together around thirteen participants such as members of the National police, the General Assembly, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, lawyers, etc. Mr. Thomas Gebauer, Counsellor/Chargé d'Affaires for the Embassy of Germany in Chad and Mr. Didier Perardel, Technical Operations Manager of MAG International in Chad were also invited by UNODC to attend the workshop.
The legal workshop was developed within the framework of the UNODC's Global Firearms Programme and the Sahel Programme, funded by Japan and Denmark.
