On 3 November 2020 UNODC’s Global Firearms Programme (GFP) held a project coordination meeting with the national authorities in Serbia including the Ministry of Interior, Republic Public Prosecutor’s Office, Ministry of Justice, High Judicial Council, Customs Administration and Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The meeting presented an opportunity for GFP to discuss its contribution towards countering illicit manufacturing of and trafficking in firearms in Serbia and the region, within the framework of UNODC’s Regional Programme for South Eastern Europe and UNODC’s regional project on “Criminal Justice Response against Arms Trafficking”. The GFP’s efforts in Serbia were welcomed by the authorities and concrete suggestions were discussed to ensure effective implementation of the planned activities. In the upcoming period, the specific activities and the scope of engagement of the GFP in Serbia will be precisely defined with inclusion of the national authorities.
The activities in Serbia are supported under the Western Balkans SALW Control Roadmap Multi-Partner Trust Fund by Germany, UK, Netherlands, France, Sweden and Norway.
