Asuncion Paraguay, 10-11 March 2022 – UNODC, through its Global Firearms Programme, organised a workshop in close cooperation with the government of Paraguay aimed at continuing the efforts to support the creation of an Integrated Firearms Centre in the country.
The workshop brought together 17 national experts from the National Police, the National Directorate of War Materials (DIMABEL), the Public Ministry, the National Customs Directorate, the National Anti-Drug Secretariat (SENAD), the Judiciary and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The aim of this workshop, which was building on the conclusions of a previous workshop organised in October 2021, was to agree on next steps for the formation of the centre and establish a Technical Working Group for the development and draft of a proposal to create an Integrated Firearms Centre in Paraguay.
The workshop strengthened the capacities of participating national agents, and they welcomed the organisation of this workshop and expressed their interest that the UNODC, through its Global Firearms Programme, continue to support Paraguay in the creation of an Integrated Firearms Centre.
This activity was organised in the framework of the project “Countering illicit firearms trafficking through the implementation of the United Nations Convention against Organised Crime and the Firearms Protocol", financed by the European Union, and it also contributed to the implementation of the joint Roadmap between Paraguay and UNODC Global Firearms Programme.
