UNODC and partners launch First Wildlife Week - winning against crime
National authorities are supported through the development of resource tools. Wildlife Crime Scene Guides support the training of first responders. Rapid Reference Guides for investigators and prosecutors outline key points to prove in court. Guidance on Mutual Legal Assistance has been developed with governments to ensure requests for assistance are aligned with national regulations. Bench Books are valuable tools developed to strengthen awareness and knowledge of the judiciary on environmental matters.
National assessments are undertaken using the ICCWC Toolkit and Indicator Framework to analyze responses to wildlife and forest crime. Policy and legislative reviews are also carried out in addition to curriculum reviews, which ensure adequate and effective training for wildlife authorities.
Uganda faces alarming deforestation rates due to illegal logging, unsustainable agricultural practices, urbanization and other factors. The Environment Team is supporting national stakeholders to conserve Uganda's biodiversity and contribute to the global fight against climate change. The aim of this new EU-funded project is to strengthen legal, institutional and enforcement capacities to ensure the preservation and sustainable management of Uganda's forests for future generations.
