The UNODC Prevention, Treatment and Rehabilitation Section (PTRS) published three modules on the “Introduction to Treatnet Family” e-learning course designed for practitioners from health and social sectors who work with youths with drug use disorders and their family members. This course introduces UNODC’s Treatnet Family training package that aims at strengthening skills of practitioners on elements of family therapy for adolescents with substance use disorders, including those in contact with the criminal justice system. The course is currently available in English.
Family therapy is an evidence-based intervention for treatment of substance use disorders among adolescents, in line with the UNODC/WHO International Standards for the Treatment of Drug Use Disorders. Through in-person Treatnet Family trainings, UNODC has so far supported capacity building of practitioners in addressing adolescents’ substance use and related social and behavioural problems in 34 countries.
This self-paced e-Learning course was developed based on UNODC’s experience during the COVID-19 pandemic, where UNODC explored the acceptability and feasibility of delivering Treatnet Family trainings online. Through this course, practitioners will be able to learn about Treatnet Family at their own pace either in preparation to an in-person Treatnet Family training or to gain an overview about its concept. This new self-paced online course, consisting of three 60-minute modules, introduces learners to skills that are taught in Treatnet Family. This self-paced eLearning course will not replace an in-person training where skills are taught through role plays and other methods.
The UNODC Prevention, Treatment and Rehabilitation Section (PTRS) has also developed other e-Learning courses, with a view to ultimately enhancing the opportunity to build capacities of professionals that work with people with drug use disorders, their families, peers and communities. All interested are encouraged to complete and disseminate these UNODC online courses, which are available on the UNODC Global e-Learning page.
