To achieve tangible results in increasing availability of and access to controlled medicines for different medical conditions while protecting patients from threats posed by these medicines, this initiative seeks to establish an informal platform for young doctors to contribute to identification of barriers and challenges in access to controlled medicines, and building capacity for sustainable and resilient health systems, through various activities. This initiative also aims at building bridges among health professionals, drug control systems, and regulatory bodies in countries to overcome the existing challenges in availability of and access to controlled medicines.
The network of young doctors is also in line with General Assembly resolution 70/1 of September 2015, entitled “Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for sustainable Development”, and is to promote the youth participation as agents and beneficiaries of development, to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, as well as to the general well-being of the society.
This initiative is in line with implementation of UNODC programme on increasing availability of and access to controlled medicines for medical and scientific purposes while preventing diversion and non-medical use. The network’s objectives include:

In March 2024 and during the 67th session of the Commission of Narcotic Drugs (CND), the representative of the Young Doctors Network delivered its very first statement to the plenary. This event was highlighted by the World Medical Journal.
