The CND and the CCPCJ are both subsidiary bodies of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), and form two of the nine functional commissions of the Council.
The work of ECOSOC and of the Commissions is linked through the agenda of the Council. The reports of the Commissions are considered by the Council during the General Segment of its substantive session each year, held toward the end of July, under the agenda item entitled "Social and human rights questions."
The report of each Commission is adopted at the end of their respective sessions, and includes a number of resolutions and decisions adopted by the Commissions, some of which may be for adoption by the Council or for recommendation by the Council for adoption by the General Assembly. These resolutions and decisions appear in the reports under the Chapter entitled "Matters calling for action by the Economic and Social Council or brought to its attention." Once adopted by the Council, these resolutions and decisions become ECOSOC resolutions and decisions and are given an ECOSOC symbol.
