CND Dec.11(S-VI). | Countermeasures against the illicit drug traffic |
At its 891st meeting, on 19 February 1980, the Commission on Narcotic Drugs decided to ask all Governments to implement to the fullest extent possible the following countermeasures against the illicit drug traffic and to ask the Secretariat to assist in this endeavour, within the limit of the resources available, whenever requested to do so: (a) Accomplishment of the measures contained in Commission resolutions 1 (XXVIII) on technological aids for improved enforcement against the illicit drug traffic, 3 (XXVIII) on financial assets and transactions related to illicit drug traffic, and 5 (XXVIII) on measures to control the chemical precursors of drugs of abuse, based on the information received from Governments; (b) Closer co-operation between countries in both regional and other meetings in the exchange of information; (c) Increased training for enforcement officers in couriers' methods of operation and in the identification of drugs likely to be encountered in the illicit traffic; (d) Establishment of more rapid and effective means of communication for operational purposes; (e) Provision of more equipment and technical assistance to those countries which need it to enable them to play their full part in the work against the illicit traffic.
