The Open-ended Intergovernmental Working Group on Asset Recovery, also called the “Asset Recovery Working Group”, is a subsidiary body of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption.
The Working Group is responsible for assisting and advising the Conference of the States Parties in the implementation of its mandate on the return of proceeds of corruption pursuant to chapter V of the Convention. The review of this chapter by States parties to the Convention has taken place during the second cycle of the Mechanism for the Review of Implementation of the Convention.
Since its establishment in 2006, the Asset Recovery Working Group has held one meeting per year, where participants are able to exchange information on good practices and existing and emerging challenges related to the implementation of chapter V of the Convention and develop recommendations to be presented to the Conference. Topics discussed during the Working Group may include financial disclosure systems, beneficial ownership, procedures for the confiscation of proceeds of corruption, the management of frozen, seized and confiscated assets and financial intelligence units, among others.
The workplan for the subsidiary bodies of the Conference for the period 2024-2025, which was approved by the Bureau of the Conference, is available here.
