The Open-ended Intergovernmental Expert Meeting to Enhance International Cooperation, also called the “Expert Meeting on International Cooperation” or “EMIC”, is a subsidiary body of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption.
The Expert Meeting is responsible for assisting and advising the Conference of the States Parties in the implementation of its mandate on international cooperation pursuant to chapter IV of the Convention. The review of this chapter by States parties to the Convention has taken place during the first cycle of the Mechanism for the Review of Implementation of the Convention.
Since its establishment in 2012, the Expert Meeting on International Cooperation has held one meeting per year, where participants are able to exchange information on good practices and existing and emerging challenges related to the implementation of chapter IV of the Convention and develop recommendations to be presented to the Conference. Topics discussed during the Expert Meeting may include extradition, mutual legal assistance, transfer of proceedings or sentenced persons, joint investigative teams and special investigative techniques, among others.
The workplan for the subsidiary bodies of the Conference for the period 2024-2025, which was approved by the Bureau of the Conference, is available here.
