UNODC supports the Tajik Drug Control Agency's Annual Review Meeting

On June 30 th 2017, an event entitled "Overview of the drug situation in Tajikistan for 2016" was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, with the participation of representatives of Tajik government structures, international organizations, diplomatic missions, as well as foreign and local media.
The Director of the Drug Control Agency under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Mr. Sherkhon Salimzoda, presented an overview of the drug situation in the country and shared views on the cooperation between the Tajik law enforcement agencies and the relevant international and regional partners, including UNODC, in the sphere of countering illicit drug trafficking.
At the end of his presentation, Mr. Salimzoda thanked Sub-programme 4 of the Regional Programme for Afghanistan and Neighbouring Countries for its continued support in publishing a report on the Review of the Narcotic Drug Situation in the Republic of Tajikistan for 2016 and 2015.
Ms. Ashita Mittal, the UNODC Regional Representative for Central Asia also made a presentation on UNODC's achievements in Tajikistan for 2016 under the Programme for Central Asia, while also highlighting the upcoming initiatives for 2017. Similarly, Mr. Jeremy Milsom, UNODC Senior Programme Coordinator of the Regional Programme for Afghanistan and Neighbouring Countries (RP), made a presentation on the planned activities under the RP for 2017 as well as the achievements for 2016.
During the event, the DCA report on the Review of the Narcotic Drug Situation for 2016 along with the annual reports for the Programme for Central Asia and the RP were distributed among all attendees.
