Scaling up the Strengthening Families Programme (SFP 10-14) in Kazakhstan
February-March 2018 Pavlodar, Republic of Kazakhstan
The Strengthening Families Programme has been implemented successfully in 4 schools in Pavlodar-Kazakhstan within the framework of Regional Programme for Afghanistan and neighbouring countries, Sub-Programme; Prevention and Treatment of Addiction among Vulnerable Groups.
Between 3 February to 17 March 2018, 50 families in Pavlodar participated in 7‐week sessions of the SFP programme. The weekly sessions were conducted by 16 national facilitators (school teachers and psychologists) under the guidance of 6 national SFP trainers who were awarded the certificate on "Training of Facilitators", in April 2017, following completion of training conducted under the Regional Programme.
The principals of the schools extended their full support and thanks to the programme, noting it was very important in Pavlodar. They expressed appreciation to UNODC for implementing the SFP programme in Kazakhstan. They noted that the preliminary feedback from the courses has been very positive with both parents and teachers describing significant improvements in relationships with children in both the school and home environment. It is noteworthy that all activities are undertaken in collaboration with government counterparts, namely, the Ministry of Education and Science, Pavlodar Regional Education Authority and the Republican Mental Health Centre of Kazakhstan.
