Triangular Initiative (TI) countries agreed to conduct joint antinarcotic operation

On 24 July 2019 in Almaty, Kazakhstan a Coordination Meeting of the Triangular Initiative (TI) of counter-narcotics authorities of the Islamic Republics of Afghanistan, Iran, and Pakistan was conducted under the auspices of the Sub-programme 1 of the UNODC Regional Programme for Afghanistan and Neighbouring Countries.
The Triangular Initiative (TI) is aimed at putting in place strategic and tactical responses for combating opiate and illicit precursors trafficking to/from Afghanistan through confidence-building measures, information exchange and operational activities between Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan.
During the meeting participants discussed issues related to cooperation in countering drugs and illicit precursors. Participants agreed to launch intelligence-led drug interdiction operations focused on information sharing and cross-border follow-up operations on illicit drugs and precursors. According to the operational plan TI countries will assign Liaison Officers to the Joint Planning Cell (JPC) for the duration of the operation.
