Mrs. Zhanerke Omarova
Programme Officer - Project Office, Kazakhstan
Zhanerke joined UNODC in 2011. She is a Programme Officer of Sub-Programme 3 of the Regional Programme for Afghanistan and Neighboring Countries (RP) and is based in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan.
Prior to joining the UN system, she worked in different capacities in the system of higher education and business.
She participated in the development of UNODC International Standards on Drug Use Prevention, coordinated the assessment of drug treatment services in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Pakistan and Afghanistan and the youth drug survey in Kazakhstan. Currently she is providing assistance in the promotion of recommended international drug use prevention and treatment standards, supporting ongoing drug demand reduction and HIV initiatives in the region as well as the development of regional networks and linkages to strengthen collaboration on drug prevention, treatment and the exchange of best practices in the region.
Since 2020 Zhanerke is responsible for the gender mainstreaming strategy of the Programme.
Zhanerke holds MA from the Kazakh University of World Languages and International Relations. She holds an academic degree in Philological Sciences (Kandidat of Philological Sciences (PhD). Her main research areas are pragma/psycho linguistics and interpersonal communication.
