UNODC assists in enhancing the capacity of forensic laboratories and law enforcement agencies of Uzbekistan
9 October 2017, Tashkent, Uzbekistan
Sub-programme 1 of the UNODC Regional Programme for Afghanistan and Neighbouring countries continues to provide the Member States with technical assistance in forensic capacity building and regional law enforcement cooperation.
Following an assessment undertaken earlier in the year, the Regional Programme has provided IT equipment including personal computers and laptops for forensic laboratories of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan. Similar equipment was procured and will be handed over to all other Regional Programme Member States in the near future. Furthermore, with a view to strengthening operational capabilities and to support upcoming operations, express test kits for drugs and precursors have been provided to the law enforcement agencies and competent authorities of Uzbekistan.
The hand-over ceremony took place on 9 October 2017 at the UNODC Regional Office for Central Asia. At the ceremony, the national counterparts noted that the equipment will improve the efficiency of the forensic laboratories and relevant law enforcement agencies. Further discussions were held on the needs, challenges and priorities for the forensic laboratories.
UNODC thanks the European Union for funding the procurement of equipment.
