Afghanistan-Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan (AKT) Initiative countries Senior Officials agreed to conduct joint antinarcotic operation

On 23 July 2019 in Almaty, Kazakhstan a Senior Officials Meeting of Afghanistan-Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan (AKT) Initiative was conducted under the auspices of the Sub-programme 1 of the UNODC Regional Programme for Afghanistan and Neighbouring Countries.
The tripartite Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan (AKT) Initiative was launched in 2012 as a platform for strengthening cross-border cooperation, information exchange and operational activities in drug control along the "Northern Trafficking Route". Since its inception, numerous activities have been conducted contributing to drug seizures and arrests of traffickers.
At the meeting, senior officers from law enforcement agencies of Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan discussed issues related to cooperation in countering drugs and illicit precursors. Participants agreed to launch a joint counter narcotics operation with a primary focus on information exchange on illicit drugs and precursors seizures as well as cross-border follow-up operations. According to the operational plan AKT countries will assign Drug Liaison Officers for the duration of the operation.
