Afghanistan-Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan (AKT) Initiative countries agreed
on improving sustainability of the Drug Liaison Officers network

On 28-29 November 2018 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan an Expert Group Meeting of the Afghanistan-Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan (AKT) Initiative was organized.
During the meeting representatives from law enforcement agencies and Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan after short presentations on the current situation on countering narcotics in their respective countries, discussed in depth the role of the Drug Liaison Officers (DLOs) in planning and conducting joint counter narcotics operations.
Achieving the primary purpose and outcome of the meeting, participating experts reviewed and adopted drafts of the Memorandum of Understanding on placement of DLOs and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for DLO activities. Together, the documents will provide a legal basis for improving the effectiveness and sustaining the network of DLOs. Subject to final review, the documents will be signed during the next Ministerial Meeting of the AKT Initiative participating countries.
The meeting was organized under the auspices of the UNODC Regional Programme for Afghanistan and Neighbouring Countries and funded by the European Union.
