A Symposium to be held at the Vienna International Centre on 17-18 May will discuss progress in the implementation of the action points of the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy. Convened jointly by the Office of the United Nations Secretary-General, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and the Government of Austria, the Symposium will bring together representatives of Member States, United Nations system entities, regional organizations and counter-terrorism experts to discuss practical, concrete measures to implement the global strategy. It is the first major forum for Member States and United Nations actors to take stock of their counter-terrorism capacities and actions since the adoption of the global strategy by the General Assembly in September 2006. The press briefing will give an overview of the implementation process of the Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy and plans for the Symposium.
