23 June 2021 – Twenty NGO projects from eighteen countries have been announced as recipients of the latest round of grants under the United Nations Voluntary Trust Fund for Victims of Human Trafficking (UNVTF). Designed to facilitate swift humanitarian aid to victims in, or fleeing from, imperative crisis scenarios, including COVID-19, this grant cycle is the fifth since the Trust Fund was established in 2010.
Close to 500 applications were received from 88 countries in the UNVTF’s largest grants call response to date. Those ultimately chosen – the full list of which is below – will offer a range of life-saving services, including providing direct medical and material support to victims, and protecting those most vulnerable to trafficking. Indeed, since its inception, the Trust Fund has disbursed some $4.8 million to over 90 NGO projects in 50 countries worldwide. Each year more than 3,500 children, women and men are directly supported through NGO partners.
Managed by UNODC and advised by a Board of experts appointed by the Secretary-General, the UNVTF awards multi-year grants of up to $60,000 to NGOs who provide tangible support to victims of human trafficking. In line with this, in addition to this latest disbursement as part of the fast-track, emergency aid window of the UNVTF’s Small Grants Programme, the Trust Fund launched a second call for proposals earlier this month, with a focus on the provision of medium-term direct assistance to vulnerable victims of human trafficking. The application deadline for NGOs to apply for this is 9 July 2021, with further details available on the UNVTF website.
