How are you feeling today? Recognizing one’s emotions is the first step toward managing them and is key to mental health and well-being. Social and emotional skill development is one of the most important areas to invest in to prevent substance use amongst children and youth, especially when targeting children aged 6-12. As a result, UNODC’s latest ‘Listen First’ material ‘The Science of Skills’ focuses on social and emotional skill development among this age group. The videos target parents, educators, health workers, and drug demand reduction professionals and are aimed at co-viewing with children, ideally in combination with interactive educational activities, and conversations around the life skills that are taught.
This easy-to-print or download “Mindsets Poster” can be used by parents, educators, health workers, and other professionals involved in substance use prevention to talk to children about how they feel and how to recognize how other people feel as well. Do you recognize these emotions? What expressions are missing? When do you feel... sad, happy, or angry? Or you can encourage the child to mimic the emotions!
The Mindsets Poster is available in English, French, and Spanish.
