The year 2025 marks two significant milestones in the global pursuit of gender equality and women's empowerment: the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the 25th anniversary of the Women, Peace, and Security agenda UNSCR1325. These milestones serve as reminders of both progress achieved and the persistent challenges that remain. UNODC plays a vital role in advancing these agendas, acknowledging that while women often face increased vulnerabilities to security threats and poverty, they are also indispensable to building effective and resilient judicial and law enforcement systems.
In commemoration of International Women's Day 2025, the UNOV/UNODC Gender Team organized several events, including an Ambassadorial Breakfast hosted by the Permanent Missions of Norway and Kenya, a Spotlight Session on the impact of women's networks, as well as an exhibition showcasing the remarkable contributions of women from various counterpart agencies who have collaborated with UNODC.
