Asset Recovery in the Western Balkans

9 November 2022, Vienna, Austria: The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) organized a side event on asset recovery in the Western Balkans on the margins of the 16th session of the Open-ended Intergovernmental Working Group on Asset Recovery. The meeting brought together representatives from Police, Ministries of Justice and Interior, Asset recovery and Asset Management Agencies in the Western Balkans.

Speakers provided an overview of their countries’ efforts to recover the illicit gains of criminals. Key topics included the establishment of asset recovery and asset management offices, development of comprehensive asset recovery strategies and importance of coordination between all stakeholders to ensure the successful outcome of the asset recovery process; also emphasizing the role of the technical assistance provided by UNODC to the jurisdictions in the region.
